Instagram Campaign: Overfishing in Senegal

Overfishing in Senegal
Where the world's appetite for fish matters most
The social issue that I focused on for my Instagram campaign was the illegal overexploitation of fish stocks in West Africa which is contributing to poverty in Senegal. I chose this topic because I was interested in conservation of marine life, however, upon further research I found this issue in Senegal which struck a chord with me. I felt that people might respond more strongly to the issue of overfishing if they understood how it affects other humans as well as marine life. Thus, the goal of my campaign is to encourage people in developed countries, Australia in particular, to either significantly reduce their consumption of seafood or purchase from local and ethical sources.

The story featured in my campaign is circular, finishing where it begins with the Senegalese man going back out to fish again after only making enough money to fill his vessel with fuel. This is purposeful to portray a feeling of hopelessness.
